Camden Liberal Democrats launched their manifesto for the 7th May council elections last night (24th March), with former party leader Sir Vince Cable. The manifesto has six key headlines of what a Liberal Democrat council will do if elected:

· Stand up for Camden residents

· Make our communities feel safe

· Build a fair and inclusive place for all of us

· Tackle the housing crisis

· Promote thriving high streets

· Lead on climate action

Highlights of the contents of the manifesto include boosting the size of the council’s community safety teams, ensuring Camden has a comprehensive network of public toilets, restoring visitor parking scratchcards and sorting out the council’s failing housing repairs service.

There are also great ideas for cleaning up Camden and for making transport more sustainable, in a way that reflects the needs and wishes of the communities we seek to represent.

Former party leader Sir Vince Cable told the meeting how proud he is of the hard work Camden Lib Dems do for the local community and praised the manifesto for offering a clear vision for standing up for Camden residents. He also highlighted the importance of devolved decision making, and the enduring value of liberalism and internationalism in these uncertain times.

West Hampstead council candidate Aarti Wadhwani said, “Many residents tell us how concerned they are about drug dealing in residential areas and other crime and anti-social behaviour. Labour has failed to get to grips with this problem. Only the Liberal Democrats have the ideas and the drive to make Camden safer”.

Leader of the Opposition, Cllr Tom Simon said, “This manifesto sets out a serious set of proposals for making Camden a better place – safer, more inclusive, with cleaner streets and better air quality. We ask the people of Camden to put their trust in us to work hard and deliver for them.”
