Fair Funding for Camden: Residents Deserve Better

The Government's new funding arrangements will leave Camden Council receiving 16% less funding from central government, meaning £65 million in cuts next year alone, and £80-95 million overall in just three years.

These changes will have significant consequences for local services, council finances and council tax. Residents deserve clear information about how they will affect Camden and what options are being considered.

Major decisions may need to be made about council spending, local services and council tax. These decisions will affect every resident and should not be taken without proper transparency and public engagement.

Other London councils facing similar funding changes have challenged the speed of implementation and pressed the Government to reconsider. Camden Council should also stand up for local residents and seek a fair settlement.

We, the undersigned, call on Camden Council to:

  • Put the interests of Camden residents first in all negotiations with Government.
  • Publish a clear assessment of the impact that reduced Government funding will have on Camden's finances and services.
  • Consult residents openly on any significant changes to services or council spending.
  • Be transparent about any proposals to increase council tax beyond currently planned levels.
  • Work with other affected councils to challenge the speed and scale of the funding reductions.

Residents have a right to know what a £30 million cut means for their community before decisions are made. Sign this petition and demand answers from Camden Council.
