Camden Liberal Democrats call for independent investigation as Tulip Siddiq MP sentenced to jail time for corruption
Following the news that Labour MP for Hampstead & Highgate Tulip Siddiq has been sentenced to jail for two years in Bangladesh for corruption, Liberal Democrat PPC for Hampstead and Highgate, Katie Mansfield has responded:
"Fair and transparent trials are essential to any justice system and Tulip Siddiq is fully entitled to due process. At the same time, the allegations are serious, and it is important that they are examined by an independent and credible body. It would not be acceptable for these matters to simply be branded as politically motivated and therefore go unaddressed. The people of Hampstead and Highgate deserve answers. Tulip Siddiq should have the opportunity to put her defence forward and for the residents of her constituency to have questions answered."
