Statement from Scott Emery on Hampstead and Highgate Candidacy

I wanted to personally share with you that I have decided not to put myself forward for selection as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Hampstead and Highgate.
It was an honour to stand as our candidate at the last election, and I’m deeply grateful for the support I received from so many of you. From the very start of the journey I felt so welcomed and involved, it was a pleasure to campaign alongside so many talented and enthusiastic people. There’s a real sense of momentum in Camden Liberal Democrats right now, and I’m confident you’ll build on it for great success in next year’s local elections and beyond.
After a great deal of thought, I’ve decided that now isn’t the right time for me to re-enter the selection process. Hampstead and Highgate is a vital seat, and it deserves a candidate who can give it their full time, energy, and focus as we work to turn it yellow. Over the past few months, I’ve been balancing my degree with efforts to help build up our campaign in Haringey, where I’m confident we have a real opportunity next year. Right now, the prospect of a by‑election and selection commitments mean I can’t give Hampstead and Highgate the focus it deserves to challenge Labour.
As a Highgate councillor, I remain fully committed to our community and to supporting whoever is selected as our next candidate. They will have my wholehearted backing as we continue to fight for a fairer, greener, more liberal future.
Thank you again for your support and for all you do.
Warm wishes,
- Scott Emery
