Ed Davey Joins Camden Lib Dems in Tackling Litter and Fly-Tipping on Local Estate
Lib Dem leader Rt Hon Ed Davey MP heard about the scale of fly-tipping Camden is experiencing and rolled up his sleeves to help out, alongside local Lib Dem volunteers.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) recently published statistics on fly-tipping incidents in 2025, revealing Camden to be the second worst offending local authority in the country. The fact that Camden’s Labour Council has allowed this to happen is unacceptable. Camden residents deserve to feel proud of their streets and should not have to watch their local environment suffer as a result of rising cases of fly-tipping.
On Saturday 28th February, local campaigners Laurence Lodge and Pranay Hariharan brought Lib Dem party leader Ed Davey to the Harben Estate in South Hampstead ward to help clear the area of litter and fly-tipping. The team cleared six full bags of rubbish, two empty suitcases, a broken chair and found a purse that has now been handed in to the police.
South Hampstead candidate Laurence Lodge said: “Local activism should not be seen as a long-term solution. As the Official Opposition on Camden Council, the Liberal Democrats have been pushing Labour to take action. At this week’s Council Budget debate, we proposed that the Council employ five extra environment enforcement officers, to really get a grip of the issue, but Labour councillors voted against this.”
