Cllr Nancy Jirira stands up for tenants affected by heating breakdowns
Thousands of tenants on Camden’s council estates have had problems with their heating this winter.
At Camden’s January Council meeting Fortune Green Lib Dem councillor spoke up for residents on the Sidings estate whose heating failed again when the weather turned cold. She said “The TRA spent many hours talking to heating engineers and council officers about the communal boiler last year – to no avail. In cold weather the further you live away from the boiler, the more you suffer.”
Cllr Jirira also referred to problems on the Lymington Road estate, where residents, including those living in sheltered housing, were affected, despite a new boiler being installed last year. Cllr Grauberg, who has been supporting an elderly couple with no heating in their living room, said “It took six visits over two weeks from the Council’s heating contractors to get their radiators working again – the Labour Council is really letting down people on it’s housing estates.”
