Campaign to clear up Billy Fury Way hits the headlines
The article reported that Billy Fury Way, an alley off Lithos Road in West Hampstead, is a hot-spot for antisocial behaviour, with residents reporting that they do not feel safe walking through the alley and avoid it at all costs, as a result of persistent drug use and it being littered with rubbish, human waste and used needles.
The problem has been further exacerbated by the lack of street lighting. Billy Fury Way has been without streetlights since a power cable fault last October, and despite the Council’s plan to install temporary solar lighting while the fault is fixed, the alleyway currently still remains in darkness.
Lib Dem West Hampstead Councillor Janet Grauberg has been calling on the Labour Council to take action since her election in August, organising a walkabout with the Cabinet Member and raising the issue at a meeting with Camden’s Police Superintendent. She says ‘there shouldn't be 'no-go' areas in our city, I'll keep fighting to make this area safe for everyone’.
