Charlie has publicly backed Zero Hour's campaign in support of the Climate and Nature Bill - one of the first two candidates in Holborn & St Pancras to do so (alongside the Green party candidate).

The bill provides a process to get from where we are today to our ultimate NetZero goals - by mandating that the Secretary of State sets our a clear strategy to deliver the goals, including interim annual targets, to be monitored by the Climate Change Committee and Joint Nature Conservation Committee. Charlie said:

"There are many requests for candidates to sign petitions - but this was an easy choice for two reasons.

Firstly: My reason for running in the first place was climate change: there is no challenge more important.  Not only because of the devasting potential consequences, but because accelerating climate change will make every other challenge facing our country worse, from housing & transport to health & education. Either through direct impacts on our infrastructure or because we will have to divert more and more of our resources to fighting floods, fires and food insecurity, instead of actually taking Britain forward into the 21st century.

Secondly: In my professional career I am a strong advocate for clear annual target setting & regular reporting in order to achieve ambitious goals - and there is no more critical or ambitious goal than reaching NetZero.  Without that defined process, and interim targets, it is too easy for an incumbent government to claim progress while falling well short of what is required.  Accountability is going to be key to delivery.

We need the Climate & Nature Bill."
